1978 - Sydney Critics’ Circle Award for POPPY.  An honour normally bestowed on drama directors rather than choreographer/directors.


1976 - The Canberra Times Award for best new work - GLIMPSES created for The Australian Ballet's annual choreographic competition.


1971 - Awarded an Australia Council Grant to travel and study dance in the U.S. and England.

Achievements:


Critics acclaim that Janet, who exemplifies technical proficiency in classical technique is at the same time Australia's leading contemporary female dancer.  As a performer she is “able to be whomever or whatever she wishes to be thereby compelling absolute attention.”


In 1996, named as one of the five greatest Australian female dancers of all time by Dance Australia Magazine - those five greats are:


Lucette Aldous, Marilyn Jones, Marilyn Rowe, Kathleen Gorham and Janet Vernon
